Why AI and Cybersecurity Belong in the Same Classroom

When we designed our diploma pairing AI and cybersecurity, people asked why we'd put two subjects together that universities usually teach in separate departments. The answer is simple: the world stopped treating them as separate a while ago, and the classroom is the last place still pretending otherwise.

The two are now bound to each other. Every AI system an organisation deploys is a new surface to attack — a model that can be poisoned, tricked, or leaked through. And every modern cyberattack increasingly uses AI — to generate flawless phishing, to clone voices, to find weaknesses faster than any human could. You cannot secure what you don't understand, and you cannot safely build AI you can't defend. A graduate who knows one and not the other is only half-equipped for the job the market is actually offering.

That's the gap the diploma is built to close. It's designed around industry readiness rather than theory alone — students work in a hands-on Virtual Lab, not just a textbook, because these are skills you learn by doing, breaking and fixing. The point isn't to produce someone who can define a neural network or recite a security framework. It's to produce someone an employer can put to work: able to build an AI capability and think, at the same time, about how it might be attacked and how to protect it.

There's a career argument here too, and it's blunt. AI and cybersecurity are two of the few fields where demand is running far ahead of the supply of skilled people. Someone fluent in both isn't just employable — they sit exactly where the market is most desperate, and most willing to pay. For a young person deciding where to invest their effort, that convergence is not a niche. It's the main road.

So the question we'd put to any student, or any institution training them:
