The Last Mile of Digital Transformation Is a Person, Not a Platform
From KST Solutions — the technology arm of the Kshamata Group.
Most digital transformations are declared complete the day the software goes live. The platform is configured, the data migrated, the dashboard lights are green. Everyone claps. And then, quietly, over the following months, the organisation drifts back to the way it always worked — now with an expensive system running alongside the old spreadsheets nobody was ever weaned off.
The technology wasn't the problem. It rarely is. The last mile of any transformation isn't a platform. It's a person deciding, on a busy Tuesday, to do the new thing instead of the familiar one.
That decision is where most transformations actually fail, and it's the part most budgets ignore. We spend lavishly on licences and integration and almost nothing on the human work of adoption — the training, the confidence, the redesigned habits, the manager who models the new way instead of quietly tolerating the old. A tool only creates value when someone's behaviour changes. Buy the tool, skip the behaviour, and you haven't transformed anything. You've just digitised the same confusion.
This is why we think of transformation as a people programme with a technology component, not the other way around. The measure of success isn't "is it installed?" It's "has the way people work actually changed, and stuck?" Those are wildly different questions, and only one of them shows up in a go-live report.
None of this makes the technology unimportant. It makes it insufficient. The platform gets you to the last mile. Only people walk it.
So before signing off on the next transformation, the honest test is not on the server:
Has anyone's daily behaviour actually changed — or did we just install something and hope?
